‘Twas the night before the marathon and all through the town,
Pasta was for dinner, endless bowls to chow down.
Flat runners were set by many beds with great care,
With photos taken and placed on Facebook to share.
Runners were nestled all snug in their beds,
With visions of the finish line dancing in their heads.
With me in my bed clothes, and the Garmin plugged in,
Even a couple hours sleep would count as a win!
My sleep was quite restless and I dreamed through the night,
Waking to the alarm clock which gave me a fright.
Thoughts were swirling right through my head
I had to get up and walk from this bed.
I did Yasso’s, long runs and pace runs with strife.
All in preparation for this crazy run of my life.
Indeed, I was ready for this marathon today.
Nothing, no NOTHING would get in my way.
I was ready to race, I was ready to run.
I was ready to celebrate all the training I’d done.
Months of this training came down to this,
I was nervous and scared and also full of bliss.
With race day clothes on my body and shoes all laced,
I was ready to tackle this challenge I faced.
A quick stop in the bathroom before I could leave
And another two or three visits would happen, or so I believed.
In early morning light, I took my place.
And got ready to start this crazy long race.
I heard people shout as I ran across the line,
Happy Race Day to all and to all a great time!
